This one’s been under my radar for a long while: singer/songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke.
Australian born, classically trained, critically acclaimed, comercially ignored . . . the lady’s got cred to spare. Her music’s clearly a spiritual sibling to the likes of Mates of State and Rilo Kiley: light and catchy music combined with introspective lyrics. Top that off with a voice that can blast out operatic tones in one beat, sweet gospel trembles in the next and before you can blink she’ll surprise you again with compelling, conversational pop stylings.
